NJ ask!

           The studying and studying in english clss for the NJ ask really paid off!  The nj ask was really easy. It was 10 times eaiser then last year. The reading and writting parts I understood and was able to write alot. The english part was easy except of one essay. The essay about the labraian was the hardest. There was nothing to write about and it wasnt a good topic for a persusasive. The reading part was easy too. All the reading tasks were stright forword and easily understood. The worst reading topic would be the last one we did. (forgot the name) It was easy but it was a little confusing. Thanks to all the early perpersations in Mrs. Patalanos class, i fell pretty confident in getting a good score. =)

The BIG suprise!

“ Mom and Dads anniversary is coming up. We have to do something!” exclaimed Allie. Allie and Alex are planning something big for their parents.

“ Well Allie, what do you want to do?”

“ We could make a surprise desert, but I’ll have to be simple. We only have two hours until mom and dad get home.”

“ Okay listen carefully Alex. We don’t want anything to go wrong.” Alex usually mixes everything up. He is always confused.

“ Alex, You go get a pack of cake mix, two eggs, carnation milk and pots and pans. Ill go get the rest of the supplies and pre heat the oven .”

As Alex rushed to get the supplies, I pre heated the oven and got the supplies, until I hear a loud crash!

“ Alex, are you okay!”

“ Yes but we have one problem! As I was reaching for the eggs it tipped over and the who egg carton dropped and all the eggs was splattering everywhere.”

My temper was getting high but something stopped me from bursting.

“ O great, now what are we going to do.” I said trying not to scream at him. The last thing we would want is Alex with a big tantrum.



“ Well “Alex suggested “ We could call aunt Ann. She live only two blocks away”



“ Alex, you saved us! Who would have ever thought of that plan. You go call her and Ill clean up.”

Ten minutes later aunt Ann arrive out of breath.

“ Alex called and told me it was and emergency. I came quickly as I could and I bought some eggs. For a second I thought some thing terrible might have happened.”

“ Thank you so much for coming. Alex accidentally spilled the whole egg carton. It is mom and dads anniversary and we wanted to make I special.”


“ Don’t worry.” said aunt Ann “ Ill help you and we will finfish in no time.”

Alex and Allie started mixing and aunt Ann poured the batter into the pan. Ten minutes later the cake was in the oven and we started cleaning up. After about 45 minutes the cake was done. Aunt Ann slowly but careful took the cake out. When it cooled down, we all designed it and made it look pretty. It was like I could taste the cake in my mouth. Then we hid it in the basement.

“ Again. Thank you so much!” cried Allie and Alex.

About ten minutes later, the door bell rang. It was mom and dad.

“ Alex remember not to mentions anytime at dinner time. Its I surprise.”

Their parents came back from work. They all ate together at dinner and enjoyed. Right after dinner, I went downstairs to get ready and Alex bribed mom and dad to come downstairs. As they got downstairs , Allie and Alex screamed“ SURPRISE”.

“ Thank you so much!” exclaimed mom

“ How did you guys do this. Its wonderful!”


We all ate cake happily and mom and dad really loved our idea!

Quote essay

       Too often people take the easy way out of things.  J.K. Rowling optimizes this in is famous quote "We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy." The easy way out of things will not solve anything. You have to do what is right  and know it will effect you weather its in a positive way or negative. People need to learn how to think abot the big picture before they make a move. It will effect then either way.
  Once my friend were having a big dispute. At that time we all were little and didn't know anything about life. One friend was arguing about how the other one is mean and the other was arguing about how she isn't mean and that she always looks at the bad side of others.It lasted a long time and then they decided to ask me what side i was so because they wanted to get it over with and see who was right. I choose the right thing to do instead of take the easy way out and solving the problem by a simple sorry. I decided not to answer and let them solve their disputes byt them self. I am so glad i did that because i was the right thing to do and the easy was out.
There are many people in this world who was to do the opposite to this. One example is Hitler. He disliked Jews so he decided to gang up and kill them. Instead of protesting and solving the problem by peace and war he decided to take the easy way out and do was he believed in. His goal was to make everybody that isnt Jewish on his side and kill. Instead it just cause everybody to do the opposite. They stated to hate Hitler. Since he took the easy way out he made people hate him.
  The choice is ours and we much choose what is right." I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.(Bill Cosby) Just how Bill Cosby said this, many people decide to take the easy was out of things to pleas others.

Feild Trips

Persuasive writing topic:
  
    In order to save money, your superintendent on the Edison Schools is  thinking about canceling all field trips for all school because of the budget cut. Write a letter to your superintendent persuading him or her to allow students to continue attending field trips. Give at least three reasons to support your position.

Dear Superintendent Dr. Richard O’Malley,
   
    “ We must all face the choice between what is right and what is easy”. ( J.K. Rowling). You choice regarding no field trips is not right. In behalf of  our students, it is a  request  that you do not put a stop to the field trips. We all agree that with the plenty of budget cut you should cut some activates in or after school but please do not cut field trips.  It would be a  imprudent thing to do. Field trips are educational in some way. . We get to meet our other friends and best of all we need a break from staying in school for five days in a row. 


       Education comes first. Without being educated we wouldn’t be able to do half the things we can do today. Schools provide this for us. Well, sometimes we need a break and we go on field trips since we been trying our best the whole year. Cutting field trips is not a good idea. In some sort of way it is educational. We all learn something from it. We get to learn about the world around us and enjoy. Recent studies show that fieldtrips provide the same amount of education as a full school day. The opposition  to this statement would say that you could learn about the world around you if you and you family went to the same place. Well, it wouldn’t be the same with family. You wouldn’t get to be with you friends and enjoy.

Being with friend is what everyone enjoys. During field trips we learn and enjoy. With friend we could understand the things we didn’t understand. We could meet new people and make new friends. The opposition to this would say that you meet your friend everyday. Well, meeting your friend in school is much different then being with them the whole day.


Learning could get a little boring once in a while. Even if some field trips are educational  and we get to learn in a different surrounding it does get a little tiring. Just how adults get tired of working all day, students get tired of being in school. The opposition to this statement would say that kids are in school less then parents/adults. Well recent studies proves this wrong.  Eighty-five present of the time kids are more tired then adults. It might look like they are more active and they have more energy but it is wrong.   
   
    Your choice on no field trips is wrong. Field trips are educational in some way,  we get to meet our friend and we get to have a break from school. Please listen to the student and make a wise decision. Just remember what you do will effect the student in a positive you negative way.

School Uniforms

Dear Superintendent Dr. Richard O’Malley,
    “ The unity of freedom has never relied on the uniformity of opinion.” (John F. Kennedy). The explanation of this statement is said to be what the Board of Education is opposing on. The upcoming school year will be starting off with a tremendous new look. Their opinion regarding mandatory school uniforms should not be approved due to the extra cost, less chance of  improving student/school safety and academic progress and no personal freedom.

    Uniforms aren’t a good way to improve  students discipline , motivation and school safety.  No matter what anyone tries, a student with  a bad nature will stay the same. Uniforms will not improve their discipline.
Nobody can recognize a student form the outside. The real him or her is recognized by the inside. The opposition to this fact would agree. They would think that  “punishing” a kid by making him or her wear what they don’t want to would teach him or her the lesson. Well, maybe that would work, but it would be the  punishment that goes in one ear and out the other. They probably would forget the real reason why they are wearing uniforms. Nothing would be done.

    Kid sooner or later grow. Many students will defiantly grow out of their  uniforms. Parents would have to buy their kids new uniforms every time the old one doesn’t fit.  Uniforms cost close 75 to 100 dollars. Every time you grow out of the uniforms, the parents would just be wasting money. Think about the poor families. They barely cant provide equipments for themselves, how will they be able to provide uniforms of their kid(s).  Some families will be crossing their poverty line. Well , maybe you could buy larger sizes of uniforms form the beginning but it wouldn’t look nice. It would be too baggy and not look proper.  This is clearly evident that uniforms would cause big problems.

     Clothing is a big part of teen search. They get to express their own identity in their own ways. Uniforms will take away that  advantage.  All the kids will look the same and teachers will have hard times  trying to find out which student is which. Well,  clothing cant be the only way to express themselves. There are also other accessories. Well wearing a uniform requires not accessories unless if it is the same for everyone.  Uniforms will take away students  self-expression.

    It is in my interest that uniforms should not be required. If the proposal is passed some student and parents wont be very happy. All the students would look and act the same. Not only that they cost too much money. Uniforms will not solve any problems to improve the students. Making a attempt to read and change your mind , will not only help me but it will help you understand our opinion. Thinking of everyone would be the way to solve the uniform problem.

Advertising  Rainbow Dew was really fun. Although, I could have added something more to make it even more exciting and welcoming. I liked my piece because it was original, it was creative and convincing  . After video taping our commercial i felt that I was good at having a good tone of voice to keep the audience engaged and discussing  what the product was. I thought I could have improved on viedo editing the last part and taping the sean at differnt places so it would seem boring. A persuasive essay writting techniques and strategies I'd like to try next time is  use more  statistics so the adiance would me more persuaded.I  enjoyed videotaping the commercial the best because i was fun and we had a aswome time. My goals for next time i write are use persading words so the watcher/reader would me more intersted in the writting/ commercial. I learned that i was good at using experssions,i could turn a negitive thing into positive thing and i am good at motivating others. My writting mentors are mostly Rick Riordan, Cynthia Lord and Lois Lowry. Readers will see Creativity in Cynithia Lords writing Adventure in Rick Riprdan and Excitment in Lois Lowrys writting. I really enjoyes this activity. It is better then writhing essays. We got to persuade people in differnt and fun ways.

I am advertising RAINBOW DEW. Your porbaly wondering what the is well it is the new Mountain dew except it hads 4 different flavors of mountain dew in one can so the next time you get tired of drinking the same soda in one can buy Rainbow Dew. You probably have received many offers like this but this is one of a kind. Coca Cola Commercial

My favorite commercial is the Coca Cola Commercial. In "Siege," we're reminded of Coke's power to bring happiness and optimism to even the darkest of situations. The animals are fighting and arguing to save and the coca cola "saves the day" by bring happiness. The advencher in the beginning catches the watchers mind and makes them watch it over and over. My now i probably memorized the whole thing. In many commercial  they make the thing or object look or tast good and some times it happens to taste horrible or not work at all but in the Coca cola commercial it seems goo and it tastes really good as well. I enjoyed watching this I  never seen anything so unique. coca Cola does taste pretty good. It was actually a very persuading commercial. No wonder may people like Coca Cola!!!

College and Career Unit

Throughout the college and career unit, I have learned many things. I have learned what i resume was and how to write one, what colleges have your majors how to research on a college and most importantly what you have to go threw to get a job. I also learned how to fill out a college essay. I am really glad that I got to fill the application out because now I know what it will look like so in college it will be a piece of cake. I learned about  Yale University and what college majors they offer because that's where i want to go when i grow up. The college and career until not only has taught me the importance and responsibilities of futer but how to deal with loads of work that will be given out when its time to enter college and when you are hiring for a job. 
Throughout the month of Febuary i ha  ve learned so much about college and career that when its time to go to college i will understand what life will be like in a copel of years. Thanks to this unit and Mrs patalano i have learned what was best for me. =P

College Essay

         

I admire many people whether it’s a celebrity or and random person who I meet for the first time. The person who I admire the most is my dad. The reason is because he is the kind of person who would do anything in order to reach his goal. He is a very hard working and intelligent man. He went to a collage in India and always followed his brother with whatever he did. My dad was very excelled in school until he got into 10th grade. His brother had moved onto college and now who was going to have to follow around and get help from. NO ONE! Well then as years passed by and he finally finished high school he decided to go to the same collage as his brothers. He learned how do things on his own. He decided to study in Pharmacy. Even if is grades weren't proficient he still reached for the star. He was having a very tough time and he wanted to go back home and not get his degree. But at the same time he fought with his mind and told himself, I've come this college and I better leave with a degree and before he even knew it  was time to finish college and head back home to get a job. My dad has taught to fight for what you think is right and don’t let anyone or anything get in your way.  Even if my dad is a Pharmacy Technician. and goes to work 6 days a week he still has time for is family. When ever i think of  college i think of my dad and what he did to pass college and how he always wanted to reach for the star and earn what was best for him. I want to me somewhat like my dad and I want attend Tuft’s University and study to be a pharmacist, pediatrician or a Physical Therapist.

Technology

Technology is probaly of  the most important thing that was created. Without technology we wouldn't be able to do many things. Without it i probaly wouldn't even be writting this right now. Instead we would probaly using a pen or a pencil to write this.We all know that its more fun typing then writting. Well there could be many  advantages in using tecnology. For example, if you spell a word wrong then there would be a line underneath it saying that is spelled wrong. What if some kids really didnt know the correct spelling then that would give them a better grade then they really deserve. But on the other hand it could be a good tool also because you could google something that you didnt know and you would get atleast 100 differnt answes and that could help you with whatever your doing. We could also do many educational thing as well. For example you could do studyisland.,learnia,  worksheets and manymore. Weather its on you phone, the laptop, or your i pod touch you could do may tasks.

Some people use tecnology for unessary things too. They are to addicted to games and unnecessary things . They take advantage of  the internet and dont use it as a useful tool. Instead they "pretend" that they are doing homework but instead they are just staring at the laptop or whatever other tecnology tool wasting their time. Tecnology could be a good tool if you use it wisely. Like Mrs. Patalano. She bought little devices called the clickers and you type in your answer and it would show up on her handy dandy  smartboard. How cool is that! Its fun and its educational at the same time.

Tecnolgy has had an MAJOR inpact on all our lives. Weather we us it in a good or bad way its still affects us today.

Welcome Miss.Carroll

      Hey!!! I am Bijal Patel. I'm from Lincoln Elementary. I tend to be quite and shy but when you get to know me real well I can be loud and talkative at times. I absolutely love Herbert Hoover Middle School. Its fun and not boring. In English class during 4th and 5th period is the only time of the school day witch is exciting. Sitting in s.s, science, and math class  can get a little boring but sitting in English class it doesn't seem to happen even of it a whole two periods. Our English class is prob ally the best. We can get real loud and ask too many questions but it never gets old.  My favorite period of the day is 7th period because its gym. I get to meet all my other friends who are on the other teams and be active.It is the only period of the day witch doesn't involve sittin in a chair and answer questions. Sometimes that can get really tiring and boring.  
       We start every english class by doing a do now. It is a paper and we have a quote of the day. a word of the day and grammer. Ireally dilike the grammer part of the worksheet because it can get confussing at times. Then Mrs. Patalano goes over it with us. After that cycle we go on with the real learnin of the day. We go over essays, thake quizzes and test and may more things, The most thing i hate about English is the Typing test that is every monthe and grammer. I dont like the typing test beacuse its a test witch you do on the enternet and it counts as a quiz grade. I also dont like grammer because we have to learn it everyday and week and sometimes it get boring and we have a quiz on it every friday. The part i love about english is the reading and the vocabulary. i like vocabulary because it is fun and im really good at memorizing stuff. I also like reading because it doesnt involve writting and it takes you mind away from everything else. The way Mrs. Patalano teaches us thing is an excellant way. Unlike other teachers she lets us wirk in teams. She turn the boringest lessons into the funnest things every. She is the most organized teacher i have ever met! She is very nice and funny. I hopoe you enjoy your time with us at HHMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My career goals

          Even as a kid its never to early to start thinking about what your future might be like. For example, what you might what to study, what collage you want to go to or maybe even where your what house you want to live in after 15 years! As a kid it might sound TO YOUNG to start thinking about your  future goals but its never too late. The years are going to pass by very quickly. As an kid i think i might want to become a pharmacist or a pharma tec. Although, every since i was a little kid i always played with playing medicine containers. I would open it up and put beads in it and pretend that it was medicine that  would cure you. As years past by i really started to think that the playing with  fake medicine containers could really lead me to something and it did . I have decided that i would want to become a pharmacist. Even if it might have a great amount of salary i rather work at/with something that i enjoy then rather do something that is boring and do it just to earn a living. In order to accomplish this gaol i would have to go to collage. I'm thinking of going to Keans University, Brown Collage Rutgers University. I have heard most people say that the two collage's were good. I would truly like to go to Keans University but earthier three are fine with me.
        After graduating from collage i would like to work in the State of new Jersey.I could maybe even work at my our family pharmacy in Newark. Going to collage and finishing it and getting a job might be far but thinking about your future might even help you when you get into high school when you have to find out what you might want to become.

My New Years resolutions

The New Year is the time I make new New years resolutions to improve myself in some good way. This year one of my New Years resolution is to stay in the A honor roll. In the previous marking period I made it but if I continue to but my effort into all of my work I might make it in to it again all three marking periods. Not only will it help me but it will lead to me having a new laptop if I get all A’s on my report card. In order to accomplish this wish i must try my best and but all of my 100% effort into all the work I do. If I accomplish this I will have a very outgoing year.
